SolidFire Recognized as a Visionary in Gartner’s First Magic Quadrant for Solid-State Arrays

SolidFire, the leader in all-flash storage systems built for the Next Generation Data Center, today announced that Gartner, Inc., a leading IT research and advisory firm, has recognized SolidFire as a Visionary in the 2014 Magic Quadrant for Solid-State Arrays.¹ According to Gartner, Visionaries understand where the industry is headed and have a vision for changing market rules. This first-of-its-kind Magic Quadrant evaluated 12 All-Flash Array providers specifically on completeness of vision and ability to execute.

Gartner also rated SolidFire in its 2014 Critical Capabilities Study² with an overall use case score of 3.43 out of 5. Critical Capabilities research provides a comparative analysis by scoring competing products or services against a set of critical differentiators identified by Gartner and provides actionable advice on which vendor products/services customers should add to their shortlists for further evaluation. Gartner’s Critical Capabilities analyzes the following six high-impact use cases; ratings and summary scores range from 1.0 to 5.0:

  • Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) Use Case: Ranked #2 (Score 3.40 out of 5)
  • Server Virtualization Use Case: Ranked #2 (Score 3.42 out of 5)
  • Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Use Case: Ranked #2 (Score 3.41 out of 5)
  • High Performance Computing Use Case: Ranked #1 (Score 3.44 out of 5)
  • Analytics Use Case: Ranked #1 (Score 3.49 out of 5)

As the appetite for all-flash storage infrastructure continues to grow within the enterprise, Gartner’s 2014 Magic Quadrant for Solid-State Arrays is a welcome guide for customers surveying the landscape of all-flash storage systems. The advent of cloud computing has raised end-user expectations about how IT infrastructure is delivered, and long wait times for the delivery of rigid, siloed storage infrastructure has quickly become unacceptable. To close the gap, enterprise IT management is driving to support dynamic mixed workloads with greater scale, performance predictability and automation across the data center.

According to Gartner, the demands on enterprise flash infrastructure are changing. “As initial storage performance issues were capably addressed, customers wanted to address multiple application workloads that required a rich data management software portfolio consisting not only of storage efficiency and resiliency technologies purpose-built for SSAs, but also the underlying SSD memory technology. [In addition] Gartner is seeing interest in converging multiple workloads on the same product, which, in many cases, are being enabled by features such as QoS.” ¹
