SolidFire Receives Highest Score for Overall Use Case in Gartner’s Critical Capabilities for Solid-State Arrays, 3.43 out of 5

Recognized as a Visionary in the 2014 Magic Quadrant for Solid-State Arrays

SolidFire, the leader in all-flash storage systems built for the Next Generation Data Center, today announced that Gartner, Inc., a leading IT research and advisory firm, has given SolidFire the highest scores for Overall Use Case, an average of all use cases matching common client scenarios, as well as for the report’s High-Performance Computing and Analytics use cases, in Gartner’s 2014 Critical Capabilities for Solid-State Arrays Report1, 3.43, 3.44 and 3.49 out of 5 respectively. SolidFire also received the second highest scores in the remaining three use cases: Online Transaction Processing, Server Virtualization and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, 3.4, 3.42 and 3.41 out of 5 respectively.

Gartner’s Critical Capabilities research provides a comparative analysis by scoring competing products or services against a set of critical differentiators and offers actionable advice on which vendor products/services customers should add to their shortlists for further evaluation.

Gartner’s Critical Capabilities analyzes the following six high-impact use cases; ratings and summary scores range from 1.0 to 5.0:

  • SolidFire received the highest scores for the following use cases (out of 5):
    • Overall Use Case (3.43) - average of the following use cases.
    • High-Performance Computing (3.44) - large numbers of servers and storage arrays, which together deliver high compute densities and aggregated throughput.
    • Analytics (3.49) - applies to all analytic applications that are packaged or provide business intelligence (BI) capabilities for a particular domain or business problem.
  • SolidFire received the second highest scores for the following use cases (out of 5):
    • Online Transaction Processing (3.40) - closely affiliated with business-critical applications, such as database management systems (DBMSs).
    • Server Virtualization (3.42) - encompasses business-critical applications, back-office and batch workloads, and development.
    • Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (3.41) - the practice of hosting a desktop operating system within a virtual machine (VM) running on a centralized server.

According to Gartner, SSAs (Solid-State-Arrays) are replacing high-end enterprise arrays configured for performance, and are increasingly being used in business and mission-critical environments. And, although most organizations today have deployed SSAs in a silo for specific workloads, Gartner Inquiries reveal a keen interest to harness SSAs for multiple workloads, given the maturing data services. Gartner recommends choosing products that can deliver consistent performance across varying workloads, which are important in your current and future environment.

Gartner’s inaugural Magic Quadrant for Solid-State Arrays evaluated 12 All-Flash Array providers specifically on completeness of vision and ability to execute, positioning SolidFire furthest along the ‘Completeness of Vision’ axis in the Visionaries Quadrant.
