Introducing the new SolidFire Office of the CTO (SFOCTO)
It’s not often you get the opportunity to stay in a respected company you’ve grown with over many years, yet be able to continually reinvent yourself. It’s even more rare when that’s combined with the energy, engagement, and the focused mission of a startup. The recent acquisition of SolidFire by NetApp is affording me this rare privilege, for which I am grateful. Today it’s my honor to announce I’m joining the SolidFire team as CTO, establishing the new SolidFire Office of the CTO!
Throughout the years as I’d bump into the SolidFire team at OpenStack, Structure, VMworld, and related events, the modest quiet confidence of the people, as well as their technical thought leadership, always impressed me. As we continue our growth alongside NetApp, investing in the technical teams who work with our innovative prospects, customers and partners will be critical to future success.
The SFOCTO team will engage with leading-edge technical communities of developers, release engineers and operations professionals to gain and contribute knowledge about elastic cloud storage and data management. In addition to evangelizing SolidFire within these communities, we will be diligently bringing input back to the SolidFire engineering team in order to shape future product and go-to-market strategies.
In the spirit of leading by example, the founding members of the SFOCTO are also widely recognized experts in their fields. It’s my pleasure to announce that Andy Roberts, Jeramiah Dooley, and Gabriel Chapman will join me in the creation of this select team. Collectively, we will provide specialist support to our field teams in some of the largest and most complex opportunities SolidFire is engaged in. The SFOCTO will own the “technology vision” for SolidFire, continuously incorporating input from our technical communities, partners, customers, and employees. I’ll share that vision openly with regular blog posts over here on my new Lean Cloud blog at SolidFire.
I’m particularly grateful to the mentorship provided by previous NetApp CTOs and plan on tightly aligning the SFOCTO with NetApp’s OCTO where Mark Bregman and his team continue to build out the bold Data Fabric vision as the future of storage and data management in a cloud-dominated world. My eight years in NetApp’s OCTO brings me a deep understanding of the NetApp portfolio, partner eco-system, and field organization to strengthen the overall impact of the SFOCTO. Together we are truly an Unstoppable Force!
SolidFire’s brand, open-source leadership, and contributions align perfectly with my passion for next-generation architectures and solutions. I will continue to represent both NetApp and SolidFire on the governing board of the CNCF and am very much looking forward to engaging with the OpenStack summit attendees this week to geek out on Docker, Kubernetes, Mesos, OpenStack, and the related state and data persistence topics!
P.S. Yes, I’m hiring. 😉
