SolidFire’s New Element OS Release Deepens Data Assurance Capabilities and Accelerates Transition to Next Generation Data Center

Eighth-generation storage software delivers agile, scalable, automated, predictable storage operating system for cloud environments

BOULDER, Colo., June 11, 2015

SolidFire, ranked the #1 Solid-State Array, today announced Version 8 of its Element Operating System. Named Oxygen, the newest version of SolidFire’s OS introduces significant data assurance functionality that reduces operational overhead and risk with advanced data protection functionality and expanded multi-tenant security features. Building upon seven previous versions, SolidFire’s Element OS continues to deliver the industry’s most comprehensive enterprise feature set for consolidating mixed-workloads onto an agile, automated infrastructure.

Element OS 8 Oxygen introduces key functionality that enhances data protection and further heightens data security. Along with multiple usability enhancements, new capabilities in Oxygen include:

  • Synchronous Replication - Maximizes data protection against a disaster.
  • Snapshot Replication - Replicates snapshots to a second site for rollback flexibility.
  • Scheduler / Retention Manager - Simplifies the scheduling and automation of snapshots, rollback points and retention duration.
  • Expanded VLAN Tagging - Delivers industry-leading support for up to 256 secure, logically isolated, per-tenant storage networks on a single storage platform.
  • LDAP Authentication - Simplifies management with centralized user account administration.

“SolidFire’s Element OS powers IT infrastructure and accelerates the transition to the next generation data center, delivering agility, scalability, automation and predictability,” said SolidFire’s CEO and Founder Dave Wright. “For eight generations, Element OS has enabled our customers to transform their underlying data center infrastructure and achieve things they’ve never been able to before.”

Version 8 of Element OS is delivered non-disruptively and takes advantage of Self-Healing High Availability Architecture, which has enabled thousands of in-field, in-production upgrades without disruption since the product was released for general availability in November 2012.

For eight generations, SolidFire has combined five must-have components within its Element OS to deliver the most complete range of enterprise-class features for next-generation data center infrastructures. Element OS offers these unique capabilities:

  • Scale-Out - Non-disruptive system expansion with instant resource availability and seamless generational upgrades enables placement of resources when and where you need them without affecting your core business.
  • Guaranteed Performance - Fine-grain performance control for every workload ensures application predictability and facilitates consolidation at scale.
  • Automated Management - By automating all of the complex storage management tasks and delivering deep management integration, you can focus on driving your business forward.
  • Data Assurance - Secure multi-tenancy delivered on a resilient, self-healing architecture reduces operational overhead and risk.
  • Global Efficiencies - Global, always-on efficiencies maximize utilization of resources, driving the reduction of data center footprint and lowering operational costs.

SolidFire’s Oxygen release begins shipping immediately on all new product and is available today to upgrade existing SolidFire platforms including Element X, SolidFire’s software-only option for hyper-scale customers.
